Who We Are

Since 1962, the Centre has been committed to providing compassionate, professional, and affordable mental health services to Calgarians of all ages and backgrounds from as young as 3 to over 90. We operate on a sliding scale, providing financial subsidies to those who would not be able to afford services – no one is turned away. We haven’t had a waitlist for over 20 years, so those who need help can access it when they need it.

Today, Alberta families are facing intense pressures: rising housing costs, escalating food and utility expenses, community service strain, and political uncertainty. From children to seniors – and especially those already vulnerable or marginalized – these challenges have taken a great toll on mental health.

Our Priority Needs in 2026:

1. Ensure access to professional counselling: In 2025, 62% of our 7,279 clients received subsidies due to their financial circumstances, with the largest client group paying only $8 per counselling session. Youth ages 12-25 were particularly in need, with 72% requiring subsidies. Each increment of $1,000 provides 20 counselling sessions for the most vulnerable clients in Calgary and area who otherwise could not afford it.
2. Build capacity through Resident Training & Education: Calgary Counselling Centre provides best in class training for intern practicums and postgraduate residency students. Our program enhances participants’ knowledge and skills, supports them in meeting their professional requirements, and helps them develop strong outcomes-based counselling practices. This training also builds capacity by expanding the availability of highly qualified professionals in our community, ensuring more people receive excellent mental health care.
3. Research: Invest in research and support increased knowledge of best practices in mental health care through evidence-based outcomes to better support clients and practitioners. Contact us to learn more.
