Our work

Canadian Centre for Men and Families – Calgary Centre

CCMF Alberta supports men, particularly fathers, struggling due to intimate relationship breakdown and emotional distress, and/or who are seeking healing, personal development, and wholeness.

Our people meet men where they are at, so they feel heard and validated. We encourage men’s agency (the feeling of control over actions and consequences) to help them build better relationships, become better fathers, and more engaged community members.

Programs at CCMF Alberta aim to help men manage stressful situations, rebuild their lives after relationship failure, stay connected with children, and minimize the chance of escalation to acute mental health crisis. We tailor our offerings to support vulnerable men who have experienced crisis and trauma in their lives. The focus is on encouraging men’s help seeking behavior by increasing accessibility to programs that are sensitive to men’s unique experience of emotionality.

Suicide ideation, financial and employment stress, relationship challenges, divorce and separation, parenting and parental breakdown and mental health issues like depression and anxiety are common presentations in our client population. All programs are developed in response to client needs and in consultation with a Registered Psychologist. Direct client input helps inform and bolster the relevance of our program delivery. We also have an academic and a clinical advisor on our Board in effort to position program development in relevant, current evidence and responsibly engage with our clients.

Our programs are inclusive, and we believe financial insecurity should not be a barrier to accessing services. We currently offer programs at little or no cost to the client. Subsidizing our services ensures they are fully accessible to those who may not be able to afford private counseling, group therapy, or other essential mental health support.

CCMF Alberta provides support services for men and their children who are struggling due to intimate relationship breakdown and turmoil. These include:

  • Individual counselling
  • Men’s Peer support programs
  • Trauma recovery 13 week group program
  • Life Coaching (Buddy Coach Program)
  • Transitional Housing Program aimed at Fathers accompanied by children needing
  • Mindfulness For Men (Reducing stress through mindfulness techniques)
  • Fueling Fathers parenting support and Triple P Parenting programs (Positive Parenting Program)
  • Legal Webinars and Individual legal consultations

At CCMF Alberta you are heard and understood.

Hundreds of men have participated in CCMF Alberta programs. When men have conversations in a space free of judgement with others who have similar lived experiences, they find a sense of belonging, comradery, compassion, agency, and support that helps them heal from emotional pain.
