Our work
Founded in 1980, Discovery House was Calgary's first long-term shelter for women and children leaving domestic violence, and we've been trailblazing ever since. Today, we are the only second-stage shelter in Calgary that also houses up to 65 families safely in the community.
We serve women-identifying and nonbinary people of all ages, and their children, working at the intersection of homelessness and domestic violence. Every family receives safe, stable housing paired with personalized, wrap-around support, including counselling, cultural programming, child and youth therapists, system navigation, and dedicated support workers, all delivered through a trauma-informed, inclusive lens.
Every year, we support over 400 women, children, and youth and provide more than 8,000 hours of programs and services. Our goal is simple: help families heal, rebuild, and break the cycle of violence for good.
Your donation directly funds safe housing, therapeutic programs, and the specialized supports that give families the space and tools they need for a violence-free future.
For the 7th consecutive year, Discovery House has been named a Top 100 Charity by Charity Intelligence for our impact and transparency.
