Our work
The Leighton Art Centre (LAC) is a one-of-a-kind rural arts campus where art and nature meet. For over 50 years, we have welcomed artists and audiences of all ages to explore creativity through exhibits, education, events, and the environment. LAC supports the full lifecycle of artists, from school-aged learners to professionals, all the while fostering community building and environmental stewardship on our 80-acre site in the foothills.
This is achieved through:
Exhibits
Each year, the Leighton Art Centre showcases the work of more than 200 emerging and professional artists through a diverse range of professional curated exhibitions and community art shows.
Education
Each year, more than 9,000 children and youth engage in on-site Art + Nature workshops, Art to Go classes, and summer day camps that foster lifelong learning and creativity.
Events
Each year, over 21,000 people visit our world-class site for a variety of arts and community events. From our Clothesline Art Sale to Festive Foothills to our plein air painting events, LAC strengthens cultural life in the region year-round.
Environment
Situated on the historic Leighton homestead, and on 80 acres of native foothills grassland, LAC explores and embraces the relationship between art and nature by honoring Indigenous traditions, collaborating with educators, and stewarding the land with care.
The privilege of Leighton Art Centre’s presence on 80 acres of foothills landscape within Treaty 7 territory is combined with respect, humility, and responsibility to be caretakers of the land.
