Why We Exist
The idea for the Canadian Music Competition initially took shape in 1958 in Montréal. Since then, 14 chapters have been set up to cover all of Canada with more than 200 volounteers without whom nothing would be possible. The same spirit that drove the Competition’s founders is still alive today among these volunteers: as the pillars of the organization, they supply the energy and enthusiasm required for such a competition to pursue its objectives. We thank them warmly. Thousands of young musicians have taken part in the Canimex CMC since its creation. They include some of the greatest names on today’s national and international stages, such as Marc-André Hamelin, Chantal Juillet, Louis Lortie, Martin Beaver, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, André Laplante, Gwen Hoebig, Susan Hoeppner, Stéphane Lemelin, Robert Silverman, Angela Cheng, Anne-Marie Dubois, Desmond Hoebig, Angela Hewitt, Janina Fialkoswka and James Ehnes, to name but a few. The future looks just as bright.
