Persian Speaking Women of Alberta (PerSWA), is an organization focused on empowering Persian-speaking women in the immigrant community.

Our mission is to provide resources and support to immigrant women to help them integrate into Canada and achieve financial stability, independence, and become the best version of themselves.

Our organization focuses on several key areas of activity, including:

  • Mental health awareness: Our mental health programs provide women with access to group support activities addressing specific mental health issues associated with immigrant women to help them manage stress, anxiety, and depression.
  • Women’s rights: Women’s rights programs provides access to knowledge and resources related to important rights as a woman in Canada and Canadian society. The purpose of this initiative is to provide plain language information about the relevant laws and rights of women in Canada. Relevant legal topics include family violence, relationship violence, workers right and standards, bullying, and harassments.
  • Employment support: Our programs help women acquire the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the workplace, including resume writing, interviewing skills, and job search strategies. Also, providing resources, and helping them to get the business skills they need to start their own business.
  • Financial and technical literacy: Our programs provide women with the tools and resources they need to manage their finances and access technology, including computer training and financial planning workshops.
  • Cultural and art events: These programs provide women with an opportunity to connect to their heritage, feeling less homesick and recharge to care for themselves and their families. Art programs help immigrant women explore their creativity and express themselves through a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, and photography. We believe cultural events and art help our community to emotionally regulate themselves.

We believe that these areas are essential to helping women overcome the unique challenges they face as immigrants from developing countries to achieve success in their new communities. Persian-speaking women primarily come from Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
