Vivo is a charity on a mission to inspire a wholistic mindset for healthy living. We envision a world where individuals and communities ignite change to shape healthier generations.

Since 1997, from our home base in North Central Calgary, we have offered programs that promote healthy living. Through our Centre, we offer accessibile, inclusive spaces and wellness programs such as swimming, skating, climbing, group fitness, preschool, summer camps and more. We also serve as a platform for more than 50 sport, cultural and community groups.

We know not everyone sees themselves as an athlete, but we all benefit from physical activity and social connection. To ensure everyone feels welcome and shares in the benefits, we work with the diverse communities we serve to explore how to remove barriers to people moving and connecting more.

Through our Collaboratory, we work alongside communities to apply leading practices in community engagement, social innovation and people-centric design to co-create, test, measure and scale innovative community health solutions. This has led to innovations such as the Vivo Play Project (www.vivoplayproject.com), which got participants moving 22% more and connecting with each other 24% more.

In fall 2023, Vivo re-opened following a $62 million expansion and renovation project designed to increase accessibility, sustainability and inclusivity, uniting all ages, abilities and cultures.

Our subsidy program, Everybody Plays, is Vivo’s way of removing barriers to play. We do this by fundraising to help subsidize Calgarians who may not be able to afford the physical activities that Vivo provides such as swimming, skating and climbing lessons, access to our gym and indoor park or other programming for children. The funding ensures that financial barriers do not prevent families and children in the community from participating in recreational and wellness programs at Vivo.
