Since 2006, Woezo Africa has been passionately dedicated to bringing the history of African culture to the masses through traditional and modern modes of performing arts, including dance, music, theatre and storytelling. Our award-winning organization has encouraged artistic creativity and excellence, increased awareness of and participation in the arts, driven participation in the arts and professional sectors, supported innovative cultural activities, and provided mentorship opportunities for African, Caribbean and Black artists. We intend to have our art serve the community by contributing to the cultural development and artists through spotlighting while shifting misconceptions regarding diversity. Our founder Wunmi Idowu was recently awarded Avenue Magazine’s 40 under 40 class of 2021 which is a testament to how vital our organization has been to the community.

Our organization has performed at over 600 events, producing impactful programs in Calgary and around the world, and supported more than 4,800 African, Caribbean and Black artists in the performing arts. With our contributions, we have helped raise over $2.5 million dollars across 25 charity fundraisers for philanthropic initiatives worldwide. Hosting events are our favourite way to connect with the community and your support helps us meet the needs of our community and get us closer to our goal of ensuring there are equitable arts opportunities in the city for creators of all ages.

Thank you in advance for your consideration in helping us meet our goals.
