Right now, one in five Canadians is spending more than half of their income on the cost of housing. In Calgary, there are more than 4,000 people on the waiting list for social housing. Parents have jobs and are working hard to provide for their children, but challenges like high rent, chronic illness, or poor living conditions prevent them from ever being able to save and break into the housing market. Home ownership is simply out of the question.

But we know that the struggles of these families don’t need to define their futures. With the stability of a home they can truly afford, parents can thrive at work, kids can thrive in school, and families can make confident plans for their future.With the help of donors, sponsors, community partners and volunteers, we build homes alongside future Habitat homeowners to provide a solid foundation for better, healthier futures. Working families purchase their homes with no down payment and no interest, and mortgage payments never exceed more than 25 percent of each family’s total household income.

Since 1990, we have partnered with more than 300 families across southern Alberta, transforming the lives of almost 900 children.

Families contribute 500 volunteer hours at a build site or at one of our ReStores. They also complete training in budgeting and home maintenance so they can be successful in their new home. Mortgage payments flow into our Fund for Humanity which helps build a future home for another Habitat partner family.Make a Donation

Together, we’re creating a community where every family has a safe and affordable house to come home to – a place where they can lay down roots and make memories, where they can build friendships with their neighbours over the years and feel a sense of belonging. Your donation empowers families to build equity and renewed sense of confidence and pride.

• Did you know – you could help a working family achieve stability and independence through helping them access/or purchase a safe and affordable home? Your gifts from $5,000 to $100,000 could help Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta build a new home in Calgary, Medicine Hat and everywhere in between.
• Did you know – Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta will buy-back homes from owners who have achieved enough financial independence to purchase a home on the commercial market? These homes are renovated and renewed to sell to a new Habitat partner family. You could refurbish a home for $15,000 and make it like new!
• Did you know – you could sponsor a Build Day for your service group, corporate team or church group for $5,000? There are many benefits but the best is how good you feel working alongside a Habitat family building their new home!
• Donate construction materials, or gently used furniture and equipment to a ReStore and help Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta help families!

• Construction: spend a day building homes. No construction experience needed, just enthusiasm! Our staff and Crew Leaders will teach you everything you need to know.
• ReStore: use your creativity to create appealing displays and keep the ReStore fresh and inviting. Individual and group opportunities available every day of the week!
• Special Events: if swinging a hammer isn’t your style, you can get involved by participating in trade shows or community fundraising events.
