BASIC NEEDS – WYNNE’S PANTRY (MIRIAM’S WELL) | Our basic needs program is designed to address food security for vulnerable Calgarians through the provisions of our on-site food pantry.
CLAIMS CONFERENCE (Jewish Material Claims Against Germany) – POST WAR SURVIVOR SERVICES | A vital program that supports eligible Holocaust Survivors with assistance to apply for one-time compensation or pensions from the Claims Conference and/or German government. Along with support in applying for additional resources offered by government agencies, home support services, connection to cultural and social supports and advocacy.
ESL | JFSC has been offering English as a second language classes to older adult newcomers/immigrants for over fifteen years. The success that these people have during resettlement is directly related to their ability to speak English. This program serves 45 students per term for three sessions a year. This program creates a sense of belonging in the community. It empowers our clients to know that it’s never too late to learn.
HOME SUPPORT SERVICES | Providing personal care, medication assistance, housekeeping, companionship, meal preparation, accompaniment to medical appointments, shopping and community activities and respite for primary caregivers.
MEMORY CARE | Servicing clients throughout the city of Calgary with in-home services that provide brain boosting activities for Seniors with memory loss, Alzheimer’s, and dementia and to provide respite for caregivers. This program is made possible through the generous funds of Len Shapiro.
MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT LINE | Providing short-term therapy with three no-cost counselling sessions via the phone or virtual conferencing. These therapeutic services are provided by a registered provisional psychologist.
OLDER ADULTS | Older Adults is a part of the Way In Collective, a partnership with 3 other non profits in the city of Calgary. Our program provides information, referral and access to community services to assist with food security, housing, transportation, and health care. As well as advocacy and emotional support, connection to community groups and activities, education and health promotion, and support to complete forms and applications for government benefits and income programs.
SENIORS MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTIONS RESPONSE TEAM | This was initially developed with the support of the City of Calgary grant called Change Can’t Wait. This is an interdisciplinary team consisting of a social worker and Licensed Practical Nurse that specialize in the areas of mental health and addictions to provide outreach services. These outreach services consist of: acting as advocates for the clients, completing assessments for the clients, connecting the clients to community resources, and focusing on early intervention and prevention.
