Calgary SouthWest Communities Resource Centre

Requesting $8500

charity

Prior to COVID 19, our Resource Centre experienced Provincial funding dollars being cut and had just laid off a couple of our social workers. This occurred just as COVID-19 was entering all our lives.    While spring had us operating at a small scale, two of our Community Resource Workers connected with 75 individuals and families who were seeking help in identifying resources and answered questions on what they qualified for.  We had single mothers who were depressed and isolated, new immigrants who were falling through the cracks, and seniors who were scared. We found many of our families and seniors had no technology to stay connected with and they needed help in getting a phone or some type of connection while they were isolated.

We have provided needed support for local residents in south Calgary and in fall we are experiencing tremendous growth in those reaching out to us.  We have begun the transition to online programs and services but find many still want that face to face contact.  We are trying to balance this with the safety protocols put in place.  The number one reason people are accessing our centre is for essential needs or for mental health supports.  There is very little available in south Calgary and we have become a key pillar for our communities, a place that people have known for 18 years.

Your support will remain local and help people access services in south Calgary.
