To meet our community’s increased urgent needs because of the COVID-19 crisis, the Kidney Foundation must increase funding to meet program demands. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the Kidney Foundation has been forced to cancel vital fundraising events such as casinos, bingo, walks, and more for the duration of the year, resulting in a decrease in revenue of 16% in March, and 45% in April thus far. This puts our ability to respond to the urgent and growing needs of Albertans with kidney disease in serious jeopardy.
Kidney and transplant patients – especially those in low-income households – face many barriers in meeting their health needs and staying safe. COVID-19 further impacts them disproportionately.With growing economic and health-related uncertainties impacting kidney and transplant patients, many have experienced a reduction in their household income as they practice physical distancing, given their compromised immune systems.
