In response to the massive school disruption caused by COVID-19, Let’s Talk Science is coordinating an ambitious initiative to support children in need and provide a gift of learning. School facilities are closed and considerable effort has been underway to support children’s learning online but what about those children with no access to technology and/or the Internet? LTS is coordinating an initiative called The Horizon Project which aims to send a caring signal to children that they are capable of learning without technology and that learning is the key foundation for their futures. This project targets Grades 4-6 students to gain the greatest impact as this is an age when children typically are very engaged in school but they are at high risk of losing interest. They are able to work independently and their curiosity is piqued by science. Donations will support the cost of 6,000 Horizon learning packs to be distributed to children in need through the Calgary Food Bank.
