Together with donors, recipients, employees, partners and volunteers, we are Canada’s Lifeline. Across the country, we forge connections that make lifesaving products and services available for people who rely on transfusion and transplantation.
Blood, plasma, platelets, stem cells, organs and tissues are critical in the delivery of everyday medical care including major surgeries, emergency care, cancer treatments and managing diseases. Thanks to the generosity of Canadians, we are able to provide and safeguard these systems of Canada’s life essentials on behalf of all provincial and territorial governments (except Quebec).
For more than 20 years, Canadian Blood Services has worked hard to establish trust in Canada’s blood system and earn the privilege of being a lifeline for patients. We are also a registered charity focused on evolution and improvement of the blood system. By supporting our work in blood, plasma, stem cells, organs and tissues, and research and innovation, financial donors help forge paths for people to spread awareness about the constant need for blood and blood products — and inspire others to give in ways that are meaningful to them.

Our impact:
Thanks to the generosity of Canadians, we can save and transform lives every day. Lives like Eric’s, who has received lifesaving blood transfusions 200 times and counting to manage a lifelong rare blood disorder.
When Eric was a baby, he received just a portion of a single unit of blood. Now he receives two units during each of his monthly transfusions, and the amount will increase as he gets older. His family sees first-hand how the generosity of others ensures there was always blood available for him – every month.
The need for lifesaving products to help every patient in need never stops. Eric is just one example of the thousands of patients who will rely on Canada’s Lifeline – now, and in the future.
“Every transfusion gives us one more month together,” shares Eric’s mom, Daphne. “It gives me one more month with my son, gives Eric’s sister one more month with her brother, and gives Eric one more month to live and laugh and experience his life.”

Financial donations to Canadian Blood Services also offer us the flexibility to respond to real-time challenges and opportunities in our health-care system. When we started to notice a decline in donation appointments following the Omicron variant, for example, financial gifts helped to fill the gap on promotional activities to give our recruitment efforts a needed boost.
