Our work

The Calgary Justice Film Festival (CJFF) is a charity that brings free, and completely accessible, justice‑focused films from around the world to Calgary, inspiring community dialogue and positive action through post‑screening discussions with filmmakers, experts, and those with lived experience. Donations help sustain free access for all, support community partners featured in our Peace Market, and broaden our reach beyond the annual festival. With donor support, CJFF will expand year‑round programming like the justREEL series, hosting community screenings, discussions, and workshops in neighbourhoods across Calgary and surrounds,  so people can engage with urgent social issues locally. Funds will also support the development of youth‑focused initiatives, empowering young people to explore human rights, justice issues, and social welfare topics through film, build critical thinking skills, and contribute their voices to civic conversations. Donation dollars ensure CJFF can continue selecting impactful films from hundreds of submissions, host inclusive events that connect audiences with resources and organizations working on justice issues, and deepen community engagement with newcomers, Indigenous peoples, and other equity‑deserving populations. Your support fuels meaningful dialogue, strengthens community partnerships, and helps CJFF bring stories that matter to more community members every year, inspiring us all to become active, caring citizens.

CJFF serves diverse Calgary communities, including newcomers, Indigenous peoples, racialized and marginalized groups, LGBTQ2S+ individuals, people experiencing food and housing scarcity, people with disabilities, and those with intersecting identities. The festival combines socially conscious EDC produced films with panels, workshops, and year-round programs guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Opening night, called 'Indigenous Lens', celebrates exclusively Indigenous filmmaking. The CJFF Peace Market that runs adjacent to the festival features tables from non-profits and local artisans, fostering dialogue and community connection. A new youth focused documentary filmmaking program is in the planning stage with several community partners. CJFF’s diverse Board and volunteer base reflect the communities served, ensuring programs are inclusive, representative, and empower participants to engage in social justice issues impacting themselves and their communities.
