Our Mission is to provide 100 orphaned girls (8-15 yrs of age) with basic needs, formal education, safe living conditions, food and medical care and culturally appropriate life skills that will create a safe and nurturing environment and develop social and leadership skills resulting in a self reliant and empowered lifestyle. The Foundation is based in Edmonton Alberta and its purpose and priority is to raise funds needed to sustain the orphanage in rural Uganda. Our Lady of Kibeho (OLOK) has been thriving for over a decade. Most of the girls lost their parents to the HIV/Aids epidemic. The founders, Gerald and Teddy Sseguya founded the orphanage on land they inherited from their grandmother. Like many Ugandan women, their grandmother did not have access to a formal education. She was illiterate but church and school were her top priorities. It was her wish that her grandchildren use their education to help orphaned girls in the community. One of the major priorities this year is raising approximately $93,000 CDN dollars to build a protective perimeter wall around the facility where the girls live. In Uganda, orphan girls are especially vulnerable to exploitation, abduction, human trafficking, child labour and sexual abuse. A protective wall and security gate would help ensure the continued safety of the girls. The Ugandan government has mandated the construction of a security wall. The need is urgent and the orphanage risks being closed if the wall is not completed by 2027. In addition, OLOK needs sustained giving to help pay annual school fees which are currently in arrears and expenses related to the 17 acre farm which is owned by OLOK. This asset contributes significantly to the daily food requirements of the girls. Our donors have been so generous over the years, but the need for new donors and increased and sustained generosity is unyielding.
