At My Neighbour’s Keeper (MNK), we believe no one should face life’s struggles alone. MNK is a Calgary-based charity providing volunteer-powered emotional and practical support to vulnerable neighbours who face loneliness and isolation that is exacerbated by difficult circumstances such as illnesses, disabilities, etc. Our model is simple: neighbours helping neighbours. Trained volunteers offer support, building community resilience one neighbour at a time.
Our trained volunteers offer:
Companionship visits & active listening for those experiencing loneliness
Light errands like grocery and pharmacy runs
Relational & practical support for seniors, newcomers, caregivers, adults in transition, etc.
Why Our Work Matters
Loneliness is a public health crisis:
28% of Albertans report persistent loneliness (Ipsos–MNP 2023)
1 in 10 Canadians 15+ feel lonely often or always (Statistics Canada)
Nearly half of those struggling with loneliness rate their mental health as poor
Loneliness is linked to depression, anxiety, dementia, and premature mortality—on par with smoking or obesity. It disproportionately affects newcomers, youth, caregivers, single adults, and seniors. MNK exists to fill that gap.
Our Most Pressing Needs for 2026 & beyond:
Donor dollars will directly strengthen MNK’s volunteer-driven model and expand reach to more Calgarians in need:
Connection Hub ($19,500) – Calgary’s first loneliness-focused hub, open weekends.
Volunteer Mileage Support ($6,000 annually) – Helps volunteers reach isolated clients across the city.
Outreach & Awareness ($5,000 annually) – Campaigns to connect with younger adults, newcomers, and caregivers who may not know where to turn.
Part-Time Staff Support ($15,000 annually) – A minimum-wage position to provide consistency in volunteer coordination, client intake, and reporting.
Why Donate?
Your support ensures that Calgarians who are lonely, isolated, or struggling don’t fall through the cracks. Donations fuel a community-rooted, volunteer-powered model that fills a critical gap.
Together, we can transform loneliness into connection and build a more compassionate Calgary.
