Recovery from schizophrenia is possible, and the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta (SSA) supports all those affected by schizophrenia through our programs in our branches and online. Our Peer Support and Family Support Programs offer a safe place for people to meet others with similar experiences, who understand what they are going through. Support programs provide information, resources, peer support, coping skills and hope.
96% of those living with schizophrenia report discrimination in finding employment, housing and in other areas of daily life. The SSA works hard to combat this stigma by providing Community Education Presentations to high schools, colleges, universities, community agencies, first responders and others wishing to learn more about schizophrenia.
Donations to the SSA directly support those living with schizophrenia and family members who support them. Peer support and education programs are vital to those living with schizophrenia and their family members. Having others to talk to that understand the struggle, provide mutual support, share resources with, and just knowing you are not alone is a crucial component of recovery.
