We have been alerted to multiple scam attempts involving individuals falsely claiming to represent the Calgary Foundation. These attempts haved occured by phone, email, and social media messaging platforms. Fraudsters pose as Foundation staff, or as charitable entities and reference charitable causes, community needs, or past grant support. These attempts have been reported locally and nationally.
Warning Signs
- Claims of prior support or involvement you don’t recall
- Requests for donations by phone or through unofficial channels (whatsapp, go fund me, etc.)
- Pressure to act quickly or provide immediate payment
- Requests for credit card, banking, or personal information
- Vague, inconsistent, or inaccurate details
- Discouragement from donating through our official website
What Calgary Foundation Will Never Do
- Ask for your credit card or banking information
- Pressure you to make a donation on the spot
- Request personal or financial information through unsolicited contact
- Ask you to donate through unverified websites or payment methods
All legitimate donations to Calgary Foundation are made securely through calgaryfoundation.org or through clearly arranged, documented processes.
What You Can Do
- Do not share any personal or financial information
- End the conversation if you feel uncomfortable
- Verify information by visiting calgaryfoundation.org directly
- Report suspected scams to [email protected]
- Consider reporting incidents to the Canadian Anti‑Fraud Centre and local authorities
