Babies will use more than 2,500 diapers during their first year, costing up to $1200, depending on the brand. That’s $100 a month for just diapers. This expense can quickly add up and become overwhelming for families already struggling to make ends meet.
In 2022, over 141,000 diapers were distributed to 4,700 families through our Emergency Hamper Program. Thanks to the Bare Bottoms Diaper Drive that runs throughout the year with a fundraising blitz every May, we have the resources to care for the youngest and most vulnerable in our community.
This drive was started in 2013 when passionate and dedicated volunteer Kristina Meehan-Prins discovered that there was a connection between diaper insecurity and food insecurity. Kristina wanted to bring awareness to the Calgary community to ensure that families had access to much needed diapers, formula, food, and wipes.
10 years later the Bare Bottoms Diaper Drive is now a key fundraiser that ensures the thousands of families who come to us for help have the essentials for their children. Thank you Kristina!
