Described as “exceptional” with dancers who “deliver at the highest level” by the Los Angeles Times and imbued with “precision and fire” by the New York Times, Malpaso Dance Company leads the contemporary dance world from their native Cuba. For this exclusive Canadian engagement, they are joined by the world-renowned Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra under the direction of multi-GRAMMY Award winning composer Arturo O’Farrill. Son of the legendary Latin jazz musician Chico O’Farrill, Arturo has made his mark weaving his Latin roots from Mexico City into the jazz music of his new hometown, New York City.
In this two-part program, Malpaso Dance Company brings their virtuosic fluidity to the stage, accompanied in the second act by Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra for his 2014 composition “24 Hours and a Dog.” Join Arts Commons Presents and the BD&P World Stage series to experience the fluid athleticism of Cuba’s Malpaso Dance Company accompanied by one of the best orchestras in jazz.
