Our work
Foothills Land Trust (FLT) is a small, local land trust established in 2003 currently protecting and managing ten properties totaling almost 1,700 acres, within scenic Foothills County which is located directly adjacent to southwest Calgary. This proximity to Calgary has resulted in high development pressures making timely protection a priority. FLT is a federally registered charity and a provincially incorporated not-for-profit company.
FLT focuses on protecting privately-owned property of ecological significance, mainly through the use of perpetual conservation easements. A conservation easement is a legal agreement between a landowner and a land trust that prevents subdivision, most development. and also stipulates land stewardship practices that preserve the ecological integrity of the land.
