L’Arche Calgary is a social services organization where people with intellectual disabilities share daily life in relationships rooted in belonging, dignity, and mutual care. For over 50 years, we have created real homes and programs where individuals are valued not as clients or patients, but as contributors to a shared life, each bringing unique gifts that strengthen Calgary’s social fabric.

Today, we operate five residential homes, a Day Program, a Supported Independent Living Program (SILP), and regular community gatherings that foster connection, creativity, and stability. These programs provide safe, deeply affordable housing that ensures residents age in place alongside consistent supports such as meals, transportation, access to healthcare, and meaningful daily activities. Live-in and live-out Assistants play a vital role in sustaining the caring environments that define L’Arche, and we are committed to investing in their formation, skill development, and well-being.

L’Arche Calgary is currently undertaking the most significant project in our history. Three of our homes are now more than 60 years old and no longer meet modern standards for accessibility or long-term suitability. We are preparing to rebuild these homes to be fully accessible, energy-efficient, and thoughtfully designed to give all our members the dignity of aging in place. We are also adding new one-bedroom suites to expand our affordable Supported Independent Living Program.

We expect to break ground on the first of these homes in mid-2026, launching a phased, multi-year rebuild that allows residents to remain within the L'Arche community, ensuring there are no disruptions of service throughout construction.
