Key Priorities:
Our work
Since 1975, Lunchbox Theatre has been motivated by our founders’ desire “to present live theatre during the lunch hour to downtown shoppers and workers.” This simple yet profound statement from the founders continues to inspire us as we pursue our Vision:
To provide lunch for the soul—nourish the community through meaningful and uplifting entertainment.
We hope to be the best part of your day by executing our Mission:
Lunchbox Theatre presents and develops engaging, accessible one-act plays—performed primarily at lunchtime—with a focus on Canadian stories that examine and explore socially relevant issues. We provide opportunities for local theatre professionals, including emerging artists, and support the creation of new works through our Stage One and Stage Two initiatives.
Our work reflects our core Values:
We are accessible, inclusive and anti-oppressive
We celebrate everyone’s stories to foster understanding
We engage—with playfulness and joy
We are accountable, respectful and sustainable

Stage One Festival of New Canadian Work
For more than 40 years Lunchbox Theatre has been dedicated to the creation, development and production of new Canadian one-act plays, many of which have gone on to great acclaim after their premiere on our stage. Every year, we accept 6-9 plays for a week of workshopping with professional dramaturges and actors. Each week culminates in a free public reading where our artists and audiences can engage with each other and discuss the work in development. There are a variety of ways you can support and engage with Lunchbox Theatre:
