Our Story

Why We Exist

Founded in 2011 Agriculture for Life (Ag for Life) is a charitable organization that seeks to foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of the value of the agriculture sector to our health and to our future. We accomplish our mission through the development and delivery of impactful educational programs and awareness raising activities. Through these efforts, we envision healthier communities, a sustainable and safe agriculture sector and a world that has a stable and healthy food supply.

It has been said that Canada should be a world food superpower leading the way in overcoming problems related to food production and land management, including health and nutrition, land use planning and natural resource conservation. In a rapidly changing world, with an ever growing population, the need for sustainable agriculture is imperative.

At Ag for Life we believe innovative solutions to these problems lie within the grasp of the next generation and as such we are committed to delivering impactful and thought-provoking agriculture-based educational experiences for K to 12 students in rural and urban settings throughout the province designed to stimulate thinking, problem-solving and collaboration.

AG 101
Helping teachers and students understand the fundamentals and future of agriculture and food production, health and sustainability is the focus of Agriculture for Life’s education program philosophy.  Each year our programs attract hundreds of volunteers who represent all aspects of agriculture in the province, from farmers and ranchers to scientists and industry experts.  These volunteers help us deliver our programming in schools and at special events across the province to over 50,000 Albertans annually helping to build a greater understanding and awareness of agriculture and its fundamental connection to life.

Our Programs

How We Do It

Ag for Life is a charitable organization dedicated to building a greater understanding and appreciation of agriculture and its fundamental connection to life.

We are ALL Agriculture
Agriculture is critical to every aspect of life, whether you are a city-dweller, a canola-grower, rancher, or tend to a backyard garden. It is the foundation of Alberta’s society and economy, and it is our mission to help Albertans understand the incredible depth and opportunity that agriculture affords.

Since 2011, Agriculture for Life (Ag for Life) has played a vital role in educating Albertans about agriculture, food, farming and safety. Working in collaboration with agriculture and education communities, Ag for Life develops, expands and offers hands-on educational programming to children, youth and adults throughout the province and beyond via virtual learning classrooms and other digital assets.

We believe everyone should understand and appreciate where their food comes from, and that those farm families working hard to produce our food stay safe and injury free.

Ag for Life supports the agriculture community by providing agriculture education throughout Alberta.

If you eat, wear clothes, or live in a house, you are a part of agriculture. Agriculture plays a critical role in everyone’s lives and we believe everyone should understand this connection and their influence on the industry as consumers. This is agriculture literacy.

Agriculture literacy is about understanding the connections between agriculture and the environment, food, energy, animals, society, economy, science, and technology. We are ALL agriculture.

To increase agriculture literacy, Ag for Life supports and delivers educational programming to children, youth, and adults across the province with the goal of building a genuine understanding of agriculture and where food comes from.

We believe anyone who gets to work, grow up on or visit a farm is blessed. Agriculture is full of possibilities. However we know it can be a dangerous occupation for primary producers and their families.

The goal of Ag for Life is to greatly reduce the number of farm injury and fatalities by providing educational safety programming to rural Albertan’s of all ages.

At Ag for Life, we deliver hands-on rural and farm safety education programs to children, youth and farm families across Alberta to help raise awareness and understanding about the importance of implementing safe practices on the farm.

Each year, we reach thousands of farm families through our programs, encouraging them to have more conversations about the hazards on their farm and to manage those risks by implementing safety measures.

Together, we can create a culture of safety on the farm and ensure that farm families who work hard to grow our food remain safe and injury free.

Reaching over 90,000 Albertans last year in over 300 communities, Ag for Life continues to expand its programming.

We bring agriculture to life.

We’re in it for Life!
