Why We Exist
Our mission is to promote the visual arts throughout Alberta – most directly in Calgary. We do this though the direct support of artists and the creation and promotion of exhibitions and events which give the general public access to the work of these artists.
CAAF is a not-for-profit organization which has maintained a strong voice for the promotion of Arts and Culture in Alberta for many decades.
Since 1957, several no ted artists and friends of the arts have made significant bequests to CAAF and the visual arts community. The Calgary Foundation manages these funds and uses the annual interest generated by the funds to support the visual arts locally in various ways, according to the stated intent of the donors. This legacy has been made possible through the generosity of many Calgarians, including H.B. Hill (1957), Wes Irwin (1978), Douglas Motter (1994), and Jim & Marion Nicoll (1986), all practicing artists.
