The ban on large gatherings & the closure of venues mean shows have been cancelled for the foreseeable future & many musicians have watched their livelihoods evaporate. As self-employed contract workers, musicians are a vulnerable group, & will not qualify for federal aid due to the complex nature of how musicians earn their living. Many supplement their “gig” income with teaching, dog walking, service industry, social media & PR work, but many of them will still not be able to make ends meet.
