Requesting $10000

charity

The Calgary Renaissance Singers and Player (CRSP) choir presents 2 main concerts each year. We seek to build bridges within the Calgary community by collaborating with performers from diverse musical and cultural traditions.

In the current season, our goals are to:

  • Build on CRSP’s strength as a welcoming community of singers by investing in anti-racism education for its singers & staff, that we may be more welcoming to and create safer space for all singers, staff members, volunteers, audience members & guest artists.
  • Invest in artistic relationships with IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, Persons of Colour) performers beyond the scope of a single concert by inviting IBPOC performers first as guest artists & then creating collaborative performances with them, including the co-creation of new works.
  • Nurture CRSP’s resilience by building a larger audience for early music in Calgary through engaging performances & intentional creation of safer space for all.

We require additional funding to commission new choral and instrumental works from IBPOC composers & to collaborate with some IBPOC composers. The cost for a single commissioned work and associated workshopping costs is $10,000.
