We like to say we have two seasons at Camp Evergreen – our Summer Camp Season where we host weekly on and off site experiences; and our Guest Group Season where groups come to learn, build teams and have some outdoor adventures. Utilizing our 480 acres, we are pleased to offer horseback riding, a climbing wall, low and high ropes courses, zip-lining, canoeing…the list goes on. In addition we are also able to offer up some additional amazing winter activities like croki-curl, ice skating and broomball.
Since 2010 Camp Evergreen’s reach and impact has grown by nearly 60%. During the 2019-20 season more than 5500 campers and guests from all over Alberta (55% from the city of Calgary and area) will have the Camp Evergreen experience.
During summer camp season more than 1000 summer campers, ranging in age from 5-17 engage physically, mentally, and spiritually with each other and nature in three areas of programming through our Base Camps, Out Trips and Developing Leaders programs. Campers take part in a myriad of activities ranging from horsemanship, canoeing, and high ropes courses at Base Camp; sleep in tee pees, learn survival skills and cook over an open fire on an Out Trip; and learn about servant-leadership and put it into practice during our Developing Leaders programs. Our summer camps focus on friendships, spiritual growth and outdoor fun. Our goal is simple – to give campers their best week of the summer.
Our Guest Group season, which runs from from September to June, will see more than 4000 guests come on site. We welcome schools, scout, and businesses interested in embracing nature and connecting with others. Groups can pick and chose how they utilize the facilities and our trained staff according to their goals for their stay. Staff members are fully certified in varying areas of expertise including team building and outdoor adventure programming and thus can provide a unique experience for each group.Reaching Higher Capital Campaign:
Camp Evergreen is at a crossroads. We have grown our groups by nearly 60% and continue to turn away guests because our facilities and infrastructure do not meet current the demand. We have plans to build a nearly 22,500 square foot facility in 2020. This facility will allow us to better host groups as it will give us a larger kitchen and dining facility, adaptable meeting space and 15 hotel style rooms to make Camp Evergreen more accessible. We can’t wait! But we need your help to partner with us to make this dream a reality. The infrastructure improvements for the site include upgraded water wells and modern wastewater treatment greatly reducing our environmental impact on the area and our waterways. Our campaign goal is $8,000,000
Campership Aid:
Each year more than 10% of our campers cannot pay the registration fees for their week at camp. Our Campership Aid program helps to meet the basic needs of those campers so that they too can take advantage of all the Camp Evergreen has to offer. The Camp Evergreen Board of Directors has committed to not allow finances to stand in the way of children attending camp.
Leadership Training Fund:
University students take time away from their summer jobs, or choose to not have a higher paying summer job, to serve at Camp Evergreen. We are so thankful for their skills, energy and leadership. Many of them go on to become leaders and key volunteers in their communities. Our Leadership Training Fund allows us to help alleviate some of their expenses.
