For over 50 years, the Cochrane Ecological Institute (CEI) has been devoted to the preservation and conservation of cultural and biological diversity through education; the reintroduction of extirpated flora and fauna; rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured and orphaned wildlife; monitoring and research. Professional staff, researchers and volunteers have successfully raised and released species like the Swift Fox and rehabilitated 1,000s of injured and orphaned wildlife, earning them local and global recognition. Established on 140 acres of native Montane habitat northwest of Cochrane, the CEI has provided a field station and educational opportunities for schools, community groups, and universities to pursue field research, experiential education and creative approaches to study wildlife and their behavior. Students who stay on-site to complete projects greatly need safe and comfortable housing year round. Our request for funds is for a bunkhouse, trailer, or a retrofitted shipping container to house 15-20 students. Housing would need washrooms and a small kitchen, all of which would preferably be off the gird (solar, wind or geothermal).
