Contemporary Calgary Arts Society is a non-profit contemporary art gallery located in Calgary. We exist today as a result of a collaboration of visual arts partners including the Institute of Modern and Contemporary Art (IMCA), the Art Gallery of Calgary (AGC) and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MOCA). In 2014, these three predecessor organizations formally amalgamated into a new society—Contemporary Calgary Arts Society—and in June 2018, the City of Calgary and Contemporary Calgary signed a long-term lease agreement with the City of Calgary for the Centennial Planetarium to be transformed into a world-class gallery for modern and contemporary art. In June 2019 we moved into the former Centennial Planetarium after a significant base-building renovation by the City of Calgary, and we celebrated our grand opening on January 24, 2020.
Our mission is to provide Calgary and its visitors with a major visual arts destination dedicated to modern and contemporary art, where we will deliver outstanding local, national and international contemporary art programming.
Contemporary Calgary’s mandate is to become one of Canada’s foremost cultural organizations and a leading voice among arts institutions embracing diversity, inclusiveness and engagement in both world class programming and general operations. We offer a range of programs and exhibitions that encourage meaningful experiences with arts and culture. Local, national and international exhibitions are balanced with classes, workshops, films, lectures and other activities that are establishing Contemporary Calgary as a key cultural and community resource in the City. Our goal is to be a community-wide arts and culture resource, accessible to everyone.

Alongside our programming, we are transforming an iconic Calgary landmark into a world-class destination for modern and contemporary art. The adaptive reuse of Calgary’s modernist landmark—the Centennial Planetarium—into Calgary’s first, major modern and contemporary art gallery is a source of pride for the community and a part of the revitalization of the Downtown West and West Village communities. This transformation presents a unique opportunity to be part of a city-building project.
As an independent, non-profit, member-based organization, we rely on the financial support we receive from partners, donors and supporters. We need your support to ensure that our vision becomes a reality in Calgary, and ask you to join us on this exciting journey.
Contemporary Calgary has a number of individual giving initiatives ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, as well as custom designed donor opportunities in the $25,000 to $100,000 range.
We are asking for your commitment to create something extraordinary and to see how your philanthropic support will make a difference in the cultural fabric of Calgary.
