Ecojustice uses the power of the law to defend nature, combat the climate crisis, and fight for a healthy environment for all.
When environmental laws are broken or not enforced, we take governments and polluters to court to hold them accountable. We represent other environmental organizations, Indigenous groups, grassroots community organizations, and individual Canadians – free of charge. And we fight for stronger and better laws to protect our air, water, land, and climate.
Our precedent-setting victories in Alberta include:
• Winning emergency protections for the greater sage-grouse
• Protecting Wood Buffalo National Park
• Upholding the “polluter pays principle” when bankrupt companies leave oil and gas wells behind
Ecojustice’s team of experts includes lawyers and scientists in our offices in Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax. Our work is divided into three program areas – Nature, Climate, and Healthy Communities – and is 100% funded by individuals and organizations who share our values.
