OUR WHY
In Alberta, there are limited socio-legal resources for families at risk of being reported to Children’s Services, and/or those with active files. Parents navigating the child welfare legal system often feel alone, hopeless, and powerless. Our organization was created to address the gap between parents/families and welfare services, and reduce barriers for families in crisis or who are experiencing difficulties.
WHAT WE DO
The Family Advocacy Support Centre (FASC) is a grass roots, Black- led, woman-led, organization that works with parents and community organizations to ensure families in crisis get the resources they need to stay together. FASC provides support, education, and advocacy to parents and community organizations with the goal of minimizing traumatic intervention and family separation due to child welfare involvement. We do this by providing legal education sessions, system navigation, and capacity building for professionals working with vulnerable families that are at risk for child welfare involvement. We value lived experience and work alongside individuals who have been directly impacted by the child welfare system, from our board to volunteers..
As a volunteer-run, community centric non-profit organization, we rely on the support of community members like you. Your contribution will go to support our our parent- centered, community-based education and prevention programs, general operations, and the important systems-change work that we are doing.
We believe that all parents should be able to ask for help without fear of their children being removed from their care. Help us strengthen communities by keeping families together.
