Requesting $200000

non profit

Fresh Routes is a not-for-profit social enterprise that is focused on creating new, innovative ways of providing healthy and affordable food to as many Canadians as possible — especially those who need it most. Our Mobile Grocery Stores bring healthy, fresh, and affordable food into neighbourhoods facing barriers — allowing choice, maintaining dignity, and building community. Our mission is to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, nutritious food and is informed to make healthy decisions and live a healthy life!

Fresh Routes is facing significant financial challenges. The non-profit social enterprise, which was only 5 months old in March 2020, has been hit hard by the pandemic. The pandemic increased demand for services, while decreasing funding opportunities (through grants and loans) and shuttering mobile grocery stops, which was how Fresh Routes earned money. While Fresh Routes quickly adapted to the challenges COVID-19 presented and rapidly introduced three new programs to combat food insecurity, funding and profits have not caught up to the demand for services.

Fresh Routes need to secure $200,000 in funding to ensure the organization can continue addressing food insecurity. Some areas that the funding will support include paying for urgent truck repairs, covering ongoing operational costs (i.e. fuel, truck maintenance, staffing, materials and food purchasing) and subsidizing the cost of food for shoppers who often live on very limited incomes.
