L’Arche Calgary is a community where people with and without intellectual disabilities share daily life in relationships built on mutual care and respect. For over 50 years, we’ve created homes and programs where individuals are valued not as clients or patients, but as contributors to a shared life—each bringing unique gifts that strengthen our city’s social fabric.
Today, our community includes five homes, a Day Program, a Supported Independent Living Program (SILP), and a weekly Coffeehouse. These initiatives provide safe, supportive housing and opportunities for connection and creativity. Our Core Members, adults with intellectual disabilities, receive essential supports such as healthy meals, transportation, access to healthcare, and meaningful daytime activities. Artistic expression is central to our Day Program, offering a powerful outlet for self-expression and inclusion. Live-in and live-out Assistants play a vital role in creating the stable, caring environments that define L’Arche, and we continue to prioritize their formation and well-being.
As our members grow older, their needs change—and so must the homes that support them. Three of our homes are now more than 60 years old and no longer meet modern standards for accessibility or long-term care. We are preparing to rebuild these homes to be fully accessible, energy efficient, and better suited to support aging in place. Plans also include adding new one-bedroom suites to welcome more individuals into our community.
We’re seeking funding partners who share our commitment to inclusive housing and compassionate care. If your priorities include strengthening community, supporting vulnerable populations, and advancing housing solutions in Calgary, we would be grateful to explore how your support can help bring these plans to life.
Every gift moves us closer to ensuring that L’Arche remains a place of belonging for years to come. Thank you for considering this opportunity to invest in lasting change.
