MoMo Multi Ability Movement Arts Society

Momo offers weekly low-cost, inclusive creative movement classes for adults with all kinds of disabilities. We conduct our own public classes through the DJD Dance Centre, the Wildflower Arts Centre, and other facilities, offer multi-week workshops through disability serving agencies like, Ups and Downs, AAFS, Options Day Program and the CNIB, and help teachers learn how to make their movement based teaching more inclusive.

Momo Movement provides creative opportunities to people who are often not included, whose bodies look and move differently than how we traditionally think a dancer’s body should look and move, and who are not often given a platform to tell the stories that are meaningful to them.

Momo Movement’s ensemble of mixed ability artists meets throughout the year to explore themes they care about and create performance pieces of their own design. Working with choreographers from within the ensemble and collaborating with guest artists, Momo’s ensemble is challenging who gets to make art, who gets to perform it and what it looks like.

In the 2018/2019 season Momo served 0ver 230 participants in our community classes, agency-based workshops and teaching workshops. Our performance ensemble, a group of 11 artists, created 4 original movement pieces, an original musical composition, an a spoken word piece. Together these original works were performed as The Mind Palace, at the DJD Dance Centre in June 2019Momo was proud to present The Mind Palace to over 170 audience members.Momo Movement offers classes, workshops and training opportunities for dancers and movement facilitators of all skill levels and to people with and without disabilities at studios and through disability serving agencies all over Calgary.
