Your help can be a game-changer for individual Mount Royal University students, each with a pathway in life.  Those pathways include barriers to overcome and achievements to celebrate – we invite your participation in both.  Please take a minute or two to read our story, and we will have a request for you at the end.

About MRU:

MRU is an undergraduate university known for providing an exceptional learning experience, including smaller class sizes and extensive work-integrated learning opportunities for students.

Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, MRU focuses on areas where we can make an impact and help our students succeed.  We are highlighting three areas as examples where your financial support can have a major impact to benefit students, and through them, the community:

  • Indigenous Business Education Bursaries
  • Nursing and Midwifery
  • The Conservatory

Indigenous Business Education Bursaries (matching funds opportunity)

Please consider this double-impact opportunity to support Indigenous students pursuing business education at MRU.  Indigenous students have earned a strong record of success in graduating from our Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree programs, but too often may face financial barriers to getting started in their studies.

On the positive side, MRU has secured an anonymous challenge grant to provide full-tuition bursaries.  The focus on business studies is intended to contribute to individual career paths, plus reflect the strong need and opportunity to graduate Indigenous business professionals who will contribute to, and lead, economic development in Indigenous communities and beyond.

If MRU can raise $308,000, this will activate an equal amount from an anonymous donor.  The outcome, if you can help, will be funding for 20 full-tuition bursaries ($7,600 each) each year, for Indigenous students in BBA programs.

Our Request

Please consider a contribution of $308,000, or another amount, toward activating the matching funds available.  You will help establish a total amount of $616,000 to support Indigenous students pursuing business studies at MRU over the next four years.

Thank you, if you can help make this happen!

Mount Royal Conservatory

Mount Royal Conservatory is a leading force behind the introduction, development, exploration and mastery of the performing arts. We are Calgary’s leading performing arts educator for students of all ages and abilities. From beginner to advanced, students learn from world-class instructors with real-life experience in music, theatre and performance. With your support, Conservatory students can reach their potential.

  • Upgrading the Conservatory piano fleet. A sufficiently-sized fleet of optimally functioning teaching and performance pianos is a necessity to continue offering high quality music education. We are seeking funding for annual tuning and maintenance of our existing piano stock, as well as replacement of aging piano stock. We aspire to replace 2-3 pianos annually.
    • Annual maintenance of the Conservatory piano stock funding need: $25,000 per year.
    • Piano replacement and upgrade funding need: $50,000-$250,000 per year.
  • Scholarship and bursary support of students in the Academy Program for Young Artists and Advanced Performance Programs (APP). These are the premier classical music education programs of the Conservatory – offering students a comprehensive music education featuring a balanced, performance-based course of study. Academy and APP students hone their performance skills and gain essential artistic experience with daily access to the world-class performance facilities and practice studios of the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts.

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system. The pandemic has seen an increase in career changes, retirements, and burnout in the nursing profession, and there is a critical need to graduate highly-skilled, practice-ready nurses into the field. With your support, we can reduce barriers to enrolment and to program completion.

MRU is also proud to offer Alberta’s only midwifery degree program. Starting in second year, students are required to be on-call during practicum experiences which means being available 24 hours per day, seven days per week and may include traveling and living outside of the city. Students are therefore not able to finance their education through part-time work; awards and bursaries can be a lifeline.

  • Student awards and bursaries instill ambition and open doors to outstanding opportunities and activities that otherwise would have remained closed. Knowing a donor believes in the value of a nursing or midwifery education at MRU instills a deep sense of pride and responsibility in award recipients. Named student awards and bursaries start at $5,000.
  • The Bridge to Canadian Nursing Program provides support for internationally trained nurses to transition into the Canadian nursing system. Your support could transform the lives of these nurses and their families, as well as infuse the healthcare system with their much-needed expertise. Named student awards and bursaries start at $5,000.
