“Working with local and International filmmaking communities to showcase and introduce unique cultures and experiences.”
The Society is a group of board directors to make Okotoks and the surrounding area a viable and attractive place for film creation. They work to educate and connect local filmmakers while providing the opportunity for filmmakers and the public alike to take an active part in film culture.
Pushing for innovation in both filmmaking and filmwatching, the Okotoks Film Society is here to answer questions and provide programming to encourage professional development.
The Okotoks Film Society currently hosts two festivals (The Okotoks Film Festival and the Festive Film Festival), Educational programs for Youth with our Youth Film Screening and Program (which includes providing industry mentorship of young filmmakers), two filmmaking challenges open to all skill levels and film interest, and several Film Screening events including National Canadian Film Day and the Oscar Nominated Short Films. Earlier this year we also created a mentorship program. We also partner with groups and businesses to aid in providing these film experiences, past partners include AGEC, Hub Town Brewing, and Arab Film Festival.
Our need for funding is directly related to the programming we create. With donations, we can fund events open to the public that directly support the growth of filmmaker careers. We support artists on their track to becoming professional artists, allow audiences access to art they are otherwise unlikely to find, and showcase issues and voices from around the world. We focus on local filmmakers and specifically provide a stepping stone for youth filmmakers.
In 2024 we are planning the 8th annual Okotoks Film Festival and are hoping to aid even more filmmakers in attendance at the festival.
