When I first started coming to the JCC, I was not in a good place. I was recovering from an illness and was feeling alone. From the first moment I started coming to the JCC to do my daily exercises I felt like I belonged there.
I am not Jewish, and I knew very little about Judaism or the Jewish community of Calgary. After a few weeks of quietly doing my exercises and having brief chats with the lovely staff, I felt well enough to join my first Aquafitness class.
Since that time, I’ve improved my health tremendously and I now have a few friends I enjoy a coffee and snack with every week at the cafe. I participate in many of the programs and festivals that are always happening at the JCC.
I don’t know what I would have done without the JCC!

There’s something about the Paperny Family JCC! The JCC has an energy, a warmth, and a feeling of possibility all its own. At the JCC, we believe that when Jewish living transcends differences – between those who are Jewish and those of other faiths; between generations – it creates a positive atmosphere in which anything can happen.
People who join the JCC have inspirations – to learn, to grow, to stay in shape, and to put themselves and their families on the path to a more meaningful life. Enriched by Jewish values, we create a warm and inclusive environment for everyone!
We offer a wide range of cultural, recreational, educational, fitness, and aquatics programs for people of all ages and abilities.
We have a newly renovated 25m salt-water pool, hot tub, steam room, change rooms, and gymnasium as well as a fitness centre with a functional training space.
For children, we offer a licensed and accredited childcare, programs for preschoolers, a licensed after school care program, as well as holidays and summer camps. We provide a safe and caring environment where they can learn, socialize, and play.
Adults can take part in our group exercise classes, small group training, personal training, wellness coaching or train on their own in our fitness centre.
Our Golden Age programs for seniors include Active Living classes, Parkinson’s PWR! Moves program, a seniors choir, educational programming, luncheons, outings and more. We provide a space where they can increase their physical health, take part in social and educational activities, meet new friends, and build connections.
We also run a wide range of arts and cultural programs including concerts, book festivals, and special events that are open to the wider community for free or at a reduced cost.
We are currently in an aging facility and a lot of our money goes towards maintenance and improvement of our building. Your financial contribution will assist us in providing programs and services to the community at an affordable cost and help supplement costs to seniors and less fortunate families.
