Requesting $50000

charity
non profit

Due to increased demand, PREP is ready to expand our current K-12 programs for children and teens with Down syndrome. Our fundraising goal of $50,000 would allow us to provide critical programming for up to 15 additional youth with Down syndrome. This additional funding  would be used for staffing, new materials, and administrative support for new students.

PREP’s K-12 programs are a unique, group-based social program designed specifically for youth with Down syndrome. These year-long programs provide youth with an opportunity to learn together as a social cohort and to work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide them with the skills necessary to live active and included lives in their communities. Each program team consists of an educator, childhood development facilitator, Speech-Language Pathologist, and Occupational Therapist. The program curriculum is designed to provide our youth with essential skills for life-long success, including working on their independence, social skills, communication skills, self-regulation, and self-advocacy both in class and out in the community.

Established in 1988, PREP is proud of our history of breaking down barriers for children with Down syndrome so they can live active and included lives in their communities. We accomplish this through our therapeutic and educational services for children with Down syndrome, our comprehensive parent support services, and our professional educator training. PREP has a highly skilled team of professionals, including certified teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, behaviour therapists, family support liaisons, and childhood development facilitators that all work together to provide children with Down syndrome the best possible opportunities for inclusion. Last year we were able to provide these services to over 150 families in Calgary and the surrounding area. Every day at PREP we see the impact of our work and we truly believe that if children with Down syndrome have the right support, resources, and appropriate environments for success, they can accomplish incredible things.
