Ronald McDonald House Alberta supports families seeking vital medical treatment for their seriously sick or injured child. Our warm, compassionate Houses provide a home-away-from-home for families who need to travel for medical reasons. When those families are experiencing one of life’s most difficult times, we offer them the gift of togetherness.
Since the first Houses were built in Alberta in 1985, we have supported tens of thousands of families. Every year, thousands will stay at one of Alberta’s Ronald McDonald Houses. These stays can last just a few nights, or as long as several weeks or even months at a time.
In Canada, every 20 minutes a family walks through the doors of a Ronald McDonald House. They are the lucky ones. In Alberta, we are currently only able to meet about 14% of the demand. Each year, thousands of eligible families are turned away and left to manage the immense burden of having a sick or injured child on their own. Some are driven into debt to cover the costs, while others break under the emotional stress. Some even sleep in their cars or at hospital bedsides just to stay near their child.
In May 2025, we proudly opened the doors to our newly expanded Calgary Ronald McDonald House, growing from 27 family suites to 91. This milestone allows us to support more families than ever before. However, the need doesn’t stop here. We are excited to begin the next chapter with our upcoming expansion campaign in Edmonton, ensuring even more families across Alberta have access to the care and support they need.
While we have completed the expansion in Calgary, the demand for operations support remains a key focus. We continue to reply on the generosity of our community to keep the Calgary House running and provide families with comfort, care, and the community they need during their most difficult times.
Together, we can ensure every family who needs us has a place to stay, a warm meal to share, and the comfort of being close to their child when it matters most.
