Our work

Step by Step Early Intervention Society addresses the need for timely, accessible early intervention for young children with developmental delays and disabilities, and for meaningful support for the families caring for them.

Children attending our programs have a wide range of diagnoses including, but not limited to, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, global developmental delay, apraxia, Rett syndrome, and speech/communication delays. We believe in every child’s ability to gain skills which fuels our passion to help them develop their full potential. Our play-based, therapeutic, and educational programs are designed to support neurodiverse children during the most critical stages of childhood development in the first five years of life.

We believe intervention should begin as young as possible and have led the way in providing therapeutic programming to toddlers as young as 19 months through our First Steps program, filling a critical gap in services for this age group when research shows early intervention is most effective. Our comprehensive services support children from these earliest stages and through their preschool and kindergarten years in our Early Childhood Services (ECS) program. We prepare children for a successful transition to grade one by supporting growth and strategies for communication, emotional and sensory regulation, physical and daily living skills, and academic readiness. Our service model delivers intentional, goal-oriented programming to children with a high ratio of professional support (1:1 - 1:4) from our team of teachers, therapists, behaviour strategists, and developmental aides. This level of support has been instrumental in helping children achieve milestones, and gain confidence as they work towards greater independence.

Having a child with disabilities is a key risk factor for family instability and parenting challenges, yet family wellness is essential to early intervention being effective. Step by Step aims to positively and proactively impact at-risk families by offering support groups, facilitating parenting courses, providing access to individualized counselling, hosting family engagement events, and connecting families to other community resources.

Donors and community partners are a vital part of ensuring access to therapeutic programs that help reduce the long-term impacts associated with developmental delays. Give children the best possible start and help families thrive by giving generously, today.
