About The Issue
In Alberta, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, with 1 in 6 expected to develop it in their lifetime. Prostate cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths among Canadian men. This disease can progress with very few symptoms and is often fatal when left undetected. However, if caught early, the survival rate for prostate cancer is nearly 100%.
Our Mission
To inspire hope and help patients, families, and caregivers combat prostate cancer and other urological diseases through rapid access to top urologists and comprehensive services to raise awareness, identify, educate, treat, and support them along their journey – while conducting clinical and basic scientific research and using innovation to maximize patient impact and drive cost-effective, efficient operations.
About Us
The Prostate Cancer Centre (PCC), is a charitable organization and world-class medical centre dedicated to combating prostate cancer by providing comprehensive, one-stop support for men, families, and their caregivers. For more than 25 years, we’ve been advocating for equitable access to healthcare for all men across Alberta. We offer access to prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood testing for early detection, alongside education, personalized care, and research initiatives.
Our community outreach program, the MAN VAN®, is Canada’s first mobile men’s health clinic offering free PSA blood testing for early prostate cancer detection in Alberta. The MAN VAN® goes where the men are – it’s a crucial service that addresses the accessibility and proactive health care needs of men, particularly in rural, vulnerable and Indigenous communities across the province of Alberta. The clinical team also offers a mental wellness check which assesses depression as well as suicide risk and symptoms.
