This year we had to cancel the Speaker Series Fund Raiser that has been scheduled on a Saturday near the anniversary date that the Discovery Well came into production (14 May 1914). Last year, the net revenue from the fund raiser was over $6000. We had anticipated a larger net revenue as we were intending to upgrade the quality of auction items that were available during the event. As unrestricted funds, there if flexibility to apply the money as matching funds toward an on-going Story Map Project funded in part by the Calgary Foundation; the focus of the project is to assemble historic images of people, places, and events that shaped the oil and gas industry of Western Canada and especially the area surrounding the Turner Valley Oilfield and indeed Calgary proper. The material (digital photos and associated narrative descriptions) are being displayed on a base map that will allow users to to take virtual tours of places of historic importance and interest.
