Our work

The Famous 5 Foundation is a Calgary-based national organization dedicated to advancing gender equity, civic participation, and leadership through the enduring legacy of the Persons Case. As steward of one of Canada’s most significant constitutional milestones, the Foundation preserves and animates the history of the Famous Five, whose advocacy led to the 1929 decision recognizing women as “persons” under the law.

Rooted in Calgary, where the Persons Case originated and where the organization maintains its head office, the Foundation connects this historic legal victory to contemporary conversations about representation, inclusion, and democratic participation. Through public programming, including Pink Teas, Courageous Conversations, educational initiatives, and the Trailblazers Tour, the Foundation creates accessible spaces for dialogue, reflection, and leadership development, particularly for women, girls, and gender-diverse people.

In preparation for the 100th anniversary of the Persons Case in 2029, the Foundation has completed comprehensive strategic, governance, communications, and fund development planning to position the organization for long-term impact. With strong public credibility, established assets, and growing national engagement, the Foundation is focused on strengthening its operational capacity to deliver consistent programming, steward its historic legacy responsibly, and support meaningful civic engagement across Calgary and beyond.
