Since 1979, CanLearn Society has helped children, youth, adults, and families overcome literacy, learning, attention, and related mental health challenges. Our team of psychologists, counsellors, literacy specialists, and coaches identify strengths, provide diagnoses, create personalized strategies, and support lifelong learning and well-being. We help clients build skills, gain confidence, and achieve their goals.

Our Vision: Unlocking potential so all can learn.

Our Beliefs: We believe that learning changes lives.

We believe that CanLearn Society helps children, youth and adults learn, brings hope and improves their quality of life.

We believe that individuals with learning, literacy, attention and mental health difficulties can achieve their full potential and become contributing members to society in a supportive and collaborative community.

CanLearn Friends and Teen Talk programs improved social skills for 150 students  in 13 Calgary Schools.

“I’ve noticed a big difference in my students. They seem to have more confidence; don’t seem as victimized and are talking to each other more openly. Thank you for all of your hard work! It was made a difference.” Teacher at a CanLearn Friends school

Learning Starts at Home and Magic Carpet Ride Programs 240 families  are building learning and literacy skills together.

“What motivated me to come to the program was to learn to read with my children and to help them get ready for school. I liked the program a lot. I learned how to read with my kids and talk about the characters, how to introduce a story and to summarize the reading. I have learned a lot.” A happy parent in our Magic Carpet Ride Program

Wordplay helped 114 students and 27 parents to learn together through literacy  in 12 schools across Calgary.

“My daughter  wouldn’t even try to read before. Now she is excited to read me the books we borrow from the library. It’s wonderful.” A happy Wordplay parent

Share the Magic Program distributed 410 free books to 133 day care  and preschool programs in Calgary.

“The Share the Magic program went beyond just storytelling to preschoolers; it helped to enhance the knowledge and skills of the childcare workers as well as to build the love of reading and learning in children.” A happy Manager at a day care

Taking Charge Program  helped 47 adults build literacy and life skills.

“This has been a wonderful experience for me and my family. It has opened up many doors for me, not only on the outside, but also within me.” I encourage anyone I know, young or old, not to be afraid learn.” A Taking Charge Client
