Newah Society of Calgary (NSC) is a community-based non-profit organization established in Calgary in 2021 to promote the Newah cultures, traditions, and heritages in the community as a vibrant and harmonious component of The City of Calgary’s diverse and multicultural communities. Newah, an ethnic group in Nepal and indigenous population originated in the capital city of Kathmandu. NSC always aspires to achieve its goals as per its objectives like promoting, preserving, educating, transferring, and revitalizing the Nepalbhasa (Newah Language), Newah cultures, traditions, and heritages, maintaining the Si Bicha (rituals associated with death) Guthi System, developing networking, leadership & capacity building, and participating in community development and other humanitarian activities.
The main activities that NSC was involved in were running Nepalbhasa class, publishing newsletters and pamphlets, participating in social well-being activities, joining capacity & skills development programs, celebrating cultural ceremonies, festivals & rituals, establishing Si Bicha (ritual associated with death) Guthi, and social gatherings for community building.
